Every Indian wedding involves a fire. Hindus view agni, or fire, as a deity which must be present at the ceremony to witness the wedding rites. Throughout a Hindu wedding, the fire will be central to the activities. Agni may refer to the fire itself, or to the Hindu god of fire.
Agni’s presence isn’t limited to Hindu weddings, either; you’ll see a fire present at most Hindu rituals, including holi, diwali, and other pujas.
