A moli, or mauli, is a red thread tied around one’s wrist as part of many Hindu religious rituals. Though this looks similar to the Kabbalah thread, it is not the same thing. Unwed women and men tie the moli on their right wrist; married women tie the moli on their left wrist. In the days before engagement rings, moli were indicative of marital status for women — a handy trick for interested suitors!
